
Buddy Pellerin
- Coach Pellerin is a member of the Massachusetts
Baseball Coach’s Hall of Fame. He spent 19 years coaching
for Pittsfield (MA) High School, compiling over 300 victories.
Buddy is also a member of the U.N.I.C.O. baseball Hall of
Fame and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Hall
of Fame. Coach Pellerin is a teacher of fundamentals and
is well known for teaching his players an enthusiastic style
of ball. Coach Pellerin has served on the Sports Academy
coaching staff since our first summer of 2003.
Bill
Barrale - Coach Barrale was named the head coach of
Williams baseball after serving two years as an assistant
coach and he promptly led his first Eph nine to the 2007
NESCAC title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the way to
compiling a record of 27-10. In his second year in 2008
Barrale guided the Ephs to a record of 24-12 and to the
NESCAC West title. Barrale has a two-year record of 51-22 at
Williams.
Prior to joining the Williams baseball and football staffs
Barrale served as the head coach of baseball at Norwich
University for five years and as an assistant football coach
for six years. Barrale is a 1994 graduate of Northeastern
University and was a standout in football and baseball and
also received his Master’s degree from Rowan University in
2004. Coach Barrale is also the Eph’s offensive coordinator
and QB coach.
Joe
Greenleaf - Joe is a 4 year veteran of the Sports
Academy. His has coached several local AAU, Babe Ruth
and Little League baseball teams. He was also involved
with the former Pittsfield Dukes NECBL college baseball
team. Coach Joe emphasizes the fundamentals of baseball
as a foundation for becoming a better player.
Mark Ketley - Coach Mark Ketley is
the current assistant head coach and pitching coach for
Wilton High School where has been coaching for 25 years.
Coach Ketley is the former Head Coach for Wilton American
Legion. Ketley who is a former pitcher for the University of
Tampa and Central Connecticut State University, specializes
in working with the outfielders at the Sports Academy.
Steve Alonzo - As the head
baseball coach at Mt. San Jacinto College in California
for many years, Coach Alonzo has had 18 of his players drafted
by Major League Baseball. He has coached professionally,
most recently as a hitting instructor in the Boston Red
Sox organization with the Lowell Spinners (1999-2001) and
in the Montreal Expos organization (1991-1994). Coach Alonzo
has also played and coached professionally in Italy and,
in 1988, received a master’s degree from Brigham Young
University. Steve specializes in working with the hitters
and catchers at the Sports Academy.
Pat Boulger – Coach Pat Boulger has
been a member of the Sports Academy staff since our first
year and is a favorite of all campers. He is currently a
history / sociology teacher and coach at Drury High School
in North Adams, MA. Coach Boulger has been apart of several
Berkshire County and Western Massachusetts Championship
teams with Drury during the past 6 years. He graduated from
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and is currently
working on his Masters Degree.
Mike Gambino – Coach
Gambino enjoyed a standout college baseball career at Boston
College from 1997-2000, which was followed by a brief minor
league career with the Boston Red Sox. As a senior at BC
in 2000, Coach Gambino set a school record for hits in a
season (78) en route to earning All-Big East, All-New England,
and American Baseball Coaches Association Northeast Region
first team honors. Since his playing days, Coach Gambino
has coached in the Boston Red Sox organization as a both
a special assistant to the major league club and an assistant
coach for the Lowell Spinners, and most recently as an assistant
coach with his alma mater Boston College Eagles. Coach Gambino
has received praise for his ability to coach infielders and
hitters. Mike previously served as a Scout for the Detroit
Tigers and is currently an assistance coach at Virginia
Tech.
Joe Kerrigan
– Presently the pitching coach for the Philadelphia
Phillies, Joe is considered one of the top pitching coaches
in the majors. Kerrigan has pitched for both the Montreal
Expos and the Baltimore Orioles. Joe’s coaching career
started in Montreal where he helped groom the likes of Pedro
Martinez, Ken Hill and Jeff Fassero. In 1996 Kerrigan joined
the Boston Red Sox as pitching coach. In 2001 Kerrigan replaced
Jimy Williams as manager of the Red Sox. Kerrigan will participate
in The Academy’s Elite Pitching weekend, barring a
playoff run by the Phillies.
Brad Riddle - Coach Riddle joined the
Sports Academy staff in 2005 and is currently the Head
Baseball Coach at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South
Carolina. Originally from Chicago, He was drafted and signed
by the Atlanta Braves. Brad has also scouted for the Kansas
City Royals and coached at Faulkner University. Coach
Riddle’s teaching specialties include Hitting, Outfield play
and Baserunning.
Herm Starrette
- Coach Starrette was a standout relief pitcher with the
Baltimore Orioles. His abilities to teach and instruct pitchers
are well recognized within the ranks of Major League Baseball.
Coach Starrette has served as pitching coach for the Atlanta
Braves, San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia
Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, and Baltimore
Orioles.
Bill Thurston
– Head coach of the Amherst College baseball program,
Thurston is the leader in total wins of any sport in the
colleges’ long sports history. Thurston is widely
respected as a teacher of baseball skills and techniques,
as well as, an outstanding game-coach and manager. As the
top pitcher and hitter, at the University of Michigan, he
went on to sign a professional contract with the Detroit
Tigers. He played three seasons with the Tiger organization.
He has authored a book “An Instructional Manual for
Pitchers and Pitching Techniques.” Thurston has also
produced four pitching videos, stressing proper pitching
mechanics, video analysis of the pitching motion, proper
care of the arm, and prevention of pitching injuries.
Ivan Cruz (US Military All-Stars) –
Played 4 seasons at the Major League level with the New York
Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals.
Originally drafted by the Detriot Tigers in 1988 out or
Puerto Rico. Coach Cruz is entering his 2nd season Managing
the US Military All-Stars and Latin Stars teams.
Terry Allvord (US Military All-Stars) – enters his
19th season as the founder of the U.S. Military All-Stars
establishing over 30 military programs in all services. As
the former Director of Athletics and Baseball Coach at the
xx in Newport, RI, his teams posted 3 successive best
records in the history of the institution. Coach Allvord
served as the Head Coach of the Newport Gulls of the NECBL
and also for the US Military All-Stars with an overall
record of 563 – 211 (.759 winning percentage). Terry is
retired from the US Navy after 23 years of service.
Dr. Carroll B. Land (US Military All-Stars) – has
served at Point Loma Nazarene University as a player, coach,
professor and administrator and is a past president of the
American Baseball Coaches Association. As Head Coach of the
Crusader baseball team, his squad won back to back NAIA
District 3 and Far West Region titles. 2009 will begin his
17th season in association with the U.S. Military All-Stars
as he will serve as the Head Coach for the Pittsfield
American Defenders team.

Jennifer Finley is entering her ninth
season as the head softball coach at Boston College. In
her first eight seasons, Finley has developed the Eagle
program into a power in the BIG EAST Conference and a nationally
competitive team. She has led the Eagles to two BIG EAST
Tournament Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances,
and has become one of the most accomplished young coaches
in the nation. Her staff was named BIG EAST Coaching Staff
of the Year in 2003. Prior to her arrival at Boston College,
Finley served as the head coach at Providence College for
two seasons. In two years at her alma mater, she led the
Lady Friars to two ECAC Championships and one BIG EAST tournament
championship.
Caryn Haskins begins her second
season as an assistant coach for the Providence College
softball program and her second summer instructing at the
Dan Duquette Sports Academy. A 2002 graduate of the
University of Connecticut, Haskins pitched four years for
the Huskies (1999-02). In addition, she played for UConn's
eighth NCAA tournament participating team and the 2001 Big
East championship team. She ranked seventh all time in
appearances with 76 and had the most appearances of any
freshman pitcher in UConn history. As a freshman, Haskins
led the Big East in saves with four. A three time Big East
Academic All-Star, she also was a NFCA All-American Scholar
Athlete in 2002. Caryn currently resides in Medford, Mass.

Ed Ladley - A highly respected Coach
and Teacher at Central Berkshires Wahconah Regional High
School. Coach Ladley has coached numerous standout players
including former Williams College player and current Boston
College assistanct coach Pat Duquette. Coach Ladley's teams
are annually some of the best in Western Mass and his resume
includes several trips to the state championship. In
addition to his basketball duties, Ed also serves as the
State Commissioner for ASA Softball and is a respected
College and High School Baseball Umpire.
Pete Ellsworth - Coach Pete is a
Pittsfield resident and local coach for Basketball and
Baseball with various age groups. He is currently the
Athletic Director at Saint Joseph Central High School in
Pittsfield.. He previously spent 26 years working at General
Electric and 12 years at Lockheed Martin in a supervisory
position. Coach Ellsworth has served on our staff for
several years at the Sports Academy coaching Basketball,
Baseball and Softball.


Bill Barrale - QB Coach Williams College
2004-present
95/96 Rutgers, assisted Terry Shea (KC Chiefs, QB Coach)
coaching the QB's. Offensive Coordinator @ Norwich U.
98-03 during which time Ben Clark shattered school's
career QB records.
Dick Farley - After seventeen years of
coaching, Dick Farley is the all-time victory leader at
Williams College. Farley ranks second in winning percentage
among all coaches who have coached in NCAA Div. III and
have won 100 games. He is sixth among all coaches in all
NCAA Divisions in winning percentage.
Farley headed to Williamstown from eastern Massachusetts
where he was a high school football star at St. John's Prep
(Danvers, MA) and later at Boston University before playing
two years for the San Diego Chargers.
Bill Maver - Maver is the head coach at
one of New England’s football powerhouse programs.
Maver’s Acton Boxborough Colonials' finished their
2004 campaign by winning their fourth-straight Division 1A
Super Bowl title. Coach Maver’s squad is currently
riding a streak of 50 consecutive wins. With over 30 years
of coaching experience, including 20 as Head Coach at Acton
Boxborough, Maver is among the nations elite High School
coaches. Coach Maver is a graduate of the University of
Connecticut, where he was Captain of the Huskies football
team. Maver was named the New England Patriots 2004 High
School Coach of the Year.
